SKILLS COMPETITION
Each year, the West Hartford Girls Basketball League holds a Skills Competition Day. The competition is usually held at Conard High School immediately following the last game of the Seniors Division semi-final playoff games (historically at 12:30pm ET). Competitions that are usually held are a 3 vs. 3 tournament for Seniors Division players only, a “Kick the Cones” team competition for Minors Division and Juniors Division players only, a “Knockout” individual competition for Minors Division and Juniors Division players only, and a “Hot Shot” individual competition for Minors Division, Juniors Division and Seniors Division players. The competitions usually last about 2 - 3 hours, so be prepared for your player to hang out and wait as players are competing throughout the afternoon at different times based on player volume.
PLEASE NOTE: Players MUST show up in their uniform so that we know they are eligible to compete in the Skills Competition.
Award trophies are provided in most cases for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and certificates are provided for the Kick the Cones team competition. Trophy and Certificate award winners are recognized and receive their trophies/certificates in-between the Seniors and Juniors Division championship games the following day.
PLEASE NOTE: Players must be present at the Award Ceremony, which is held in-between the Seniors Division Championship Game and the Juniors Division Championship Game to receive their Awards. No substitutions. No exceptions. Players who cannot show up to the Award Ceremony will not receive their award.
Awards: Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Knockout and Hot Shot. Medals for Kick the Cones winners. Trophies for 3-on-3 tournament champions and runners-up. There will be other players receiving awards at the Awards Ceremony. One player (chosen by the team's coaches) from nearly every team in the league will receive a Kathy M. Doyle Sportsmanship Award. In addition, one player from the entire Seniors Division will receive the Jim Biukus - Most Improved Player Award as voted on by all of the Head Coaches in the Seniors Division. We will also provide a $1,000 University Scholarship Award!!!
Listed below is additional information about each of the skills competition games. The league will provide additional information to players and parents shortly before the day of the competition.
